PYPM Announces Interim Director; Greg Corbin Transitions to Founder Role
PHILADELPHIA, PA–Philadelphia’s award-winning youth poetry organization, Philadelphia Youth Poetry Movement (PYPM), announces the appointment of Erica D. Atwood as interim executive director. Founder and executive director Greg Corbin, the long-time face and chief advocate for PYPM, will assume the official role of founder and will focus on new ventures and expanding his horizons.
In his personal community announcement, Corbin shares “I am comforted by the dream that the Movement will continue to encourage youth to reimagine their world, to write life as they see it, and to share their stories as we watch and listen. The youth are the future and the future is now.”
Atwood, who led the PYPM board of directors from 2014 to 2016, is the founder and CEO of First Degree Consulting. She mostly recent managed the leadership transition of the Police Advisory Commission and previously served in the City of Philadelphia as Director of Black Male Engagement. With two decades of experience in communications, project management, community outreach, policy, and advocacy, Atwood is an experienced public speaker, trained mediator, and an innovative facilitator.
“Shepherding this organization to its next phase is an amazing opportunity, I am honored to be asked to come back to a family I know and love. Ensuring that all we do uplifts and centers the voice of the young people in our network will be my primary focus as we continue to serve the Philadelphia region,” shared Atwood.
Atwood’s appointment will mark the beginning of a search for a permanent director, as well as the launch of programmatic evaluation and strategic planning processes.
