A Way With Words (Upcoming Saturday Poetry Series)
Series Title: A Way With Words
Facilitator: Jacob Winterstein
Series Dates: 1/31/2015, 2/7/2015, 2/14/2015, and 2/21/2015.
Series Description: Jacob Winterstein, co-host of The Philly Pigeon Poetry Slam, will guide us through Part II of his freestyle series, A Way With Words. This series is designed to teach the values Winterstein has learned over the years through informal freestyle ciphers: the importance of listening, mutual support, respect, peace and collaboration.
Jacob believes the cipher is a pot and each of us that makes up the circle has a unique and important ingredient to contribute to the pot. He will facilitate a series of interactive, progressively more challenging improvisation activities in which everyone will be given the time and encouragement to participate. Winterstein’s poetic journey began over ten years ago, in high school when I liked to freestyle with his friends. In addition to being fun, freestyling has been an important part of my creative process.
You don’t have to want to be a freestyle rapper for this workshop to be fun or useful. It is an opportunity to add another tool to your poetic tool belt.
Series Location: The Haven is located at 232 Vine Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106
Workshop Time: 1:00-2:15
